Nail couture

The longer the nails, the bolder the message. Hang out with our fearless girl gang sporting chic and saucy nails by ISLA Berlin.

They say millennials are losing their money on overpriced avo toasts, but truth be told, they’re splurging their savings on elaborate nail art. And why shouldn’t they? I remember watching this stupid Czech TV show when I was little where they said something like “nice nails are like a personal business card” – which, when you think of it, is a bunch of objectifying bullshit.

Either way, nail art has become both an act of self-expression and self-care. Nails are now a small but powerful canvas for body art, allowing the wearer to make a statement just by the choice of color or shape of their manicure. Gone are neat girl-next-door nails, in are those that can tell your personal story.

For this 2cool4u editorial we collaborated with Berlin-based female-fronted nail salon and clothes shop ISLA, leaving them to let their imagination loose and prepare crazy and tacky nails for our girlz. Shot by the Czech rising talent Katerina Kabelkova and the ever-snazzy fashionista Melisa Minca, using clothes from both ISLA and the Melisa’s upcoming handmade fashion brand, it captures a chill afternoon at a bizarre shopping mall. Hunting for the best color of nail polish, Jihyun, Lils and Nathalie were bonding over cheap fruity drinks and complaining about frozen toes (sorry for that, ladies!). Join the sisterhood of pointy nails.
