Cross-reactivity

Czech photographer Tereza Stouracova tests bodily reactions to allergens on her own skin.

Rather than just a photo series, Tereza’s “Allergy” editorial is more of a performative experiment. She exposes her own body to substances and intimately examines her response to them. Experiencing so-called cross-reactivity, which is an allergic reaction between two different species of allergens—in her case, pollen and vegetables—, she purposely causes herself symptoms as itching, swelling, or rash.

The young photographer currently studies at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, CZ, and states that she likes to focus on capturing both mental and physical illnesses in her work; using herself or her close ones as models. Apart from that, she also snaps lookbooks for young and up-and-coming local designers, as you could already see yourself – she was the one behind the exclusive Betaomega editorial for our Tradition issue.
